     Check out this cool car! Adidas have teamed up with VW GTI to create the aptly named 'Golf GTI Excessive'. Starting in June, Volkswagen, GTI and adidas will for the first time meld into a combined product as the Golf GTI adidas. The essential fact is that the GTI’s technology and styling – and its interior customised in the style of the adidas brand – are brought together to produce a real dynamic mix. Volkswagen expect the Golf GTI adidas to attain collectible status very quickly, given the past history of models such as the two Golf Pirelli GTIs (1983 and 2007) and the Golf GTI Edition 30 (2006).      Proving that environmentally-considerate motoring doesn’t mean having to compromise on style or performance, the Citroën DS3 will be available with a choice of five CO2-efficient Euro V power plants consisting of two HDi diesel units and three BMW co-developed petrol engines, combining refined performance with strong fuel economy.

      Bugatti sent its official test driver Pierre Henri Raphanel out on  Volkswagen's Ehra-Lessian high-speed oval with the first Bugatti Veyron Super Sports to  see just what it could do. With representatives of the Guinness book of  records and German Technical Inspection Agency (TÜV) on hand, Raphanel  made passes around the big oval in both directions.

     With  output bumped up from 1,001 horsepower to 1,200 horsepower, torque  swelling to 1,106 pound-feet and a revised aerodynamic kit, Raphanel  managed runs of 265.9 and 269.8 mph for an average terminal velocity of  267.81 mph and a new world record for a production car. Back in the 1960s, at the height of the Cold War, the world's two superpowers were locked in a technology race to develop their military capabilities fastest. Out of this came the idea of 'stealth' aircraft like the legendary SR-71 Blackbird, which provided the inspiration for this highly-modified Audi R8 from New York.

     Like its winged counterpart, the Audi R8 ‘Blackbird’ features a sleek design, stunning performance and a host of stealthy electronic countermeasures for the road. Built by New York-based 'Ai Designs', the car has enough gadgets to give a military vehicle a run for its money, including a recently installed Passport 9500ci - an integrated laser detection and laser shifting unit. According to the company that builds the unit, Escort, speeding tickets will be a thing of the past thanks to the Passport's ability to absorb a laser signal and send a scrambled signal back to the source.

     With all of that stealth technology tucked underneath the car's dashboard, the R8 Blackbird exterior is the only giveaway that there’s something very special lurking within its sheet metal. Custom 20in forged wheels in a glossy black color sit at each corner, while the brake hats, rotors and exhaust tips are all coated in a flat black paint scheme. Finally, a Capristo sports exhaust with computer controlled valves allows the driver to make the R8 Blackbird as loud or quiet as they desire.

     The future of the Shinari concept isn't clear at the moment. It could be a close preview of the next-generation Mazda 6, test mules of which were unveiled at last week's Mazda engineering showcase. Alternatively, a modified version of the Shinari could become an indirect successor to the RX-8, which has become a victim of Euro5 emissions regulations.

     A cool wide body kit conversion has been made for the Chevrolet Corvette, from the tuners at ZR1 Body Kits. The Chevy Corvette already looks great from the factory, but this look has been inspired by the C6.R Corvette racing cars, featuring an aggressive stance and exterior styling. It's available in 2 varieties, the more aggressive called the Extreme Style ZR1 for the C6 Z06 Grand Sport retails for $7,599, while the tuning firm also offers the mild OEM-style ZR1 body kit for $6,999. Both of these performance packages are made from fiberglass using compression molds, and is similar to what the GM OEM manufacturers use for their body panels, while keeping the factory mounting points.

      Chevrolet's 2009 50th Anniversary Corvette Stingray Concept that made its way into the Transformers movies is one of those love it or hate it cars. On the one hand, it was sleek and muscular and pointed to the next generation Corvette. On the other hand, it owed a bit too much design-wise with the 2003 Cadillac Cien and the nods to the original Corvette Stingray appeared a little forced.

     Still, I'd find it hard to believe that anyone, even lovers of the '09 Concept, would consider putting down over $40 grand on this so-called replica. It's even harder to believe that underneath all that fibreglass is a 2005 C6 Corvette; it could just have easily been based on a twenty year old Mazda Miata / MX-5 like so many other eBay customs.

      So what does the $42,500 "Buy It Now Price" get us? For starters, the underpinnings from the C6 Corvette including its 440 hp LS2 V8 and 6spd automatic transmission. You get a clear title and 29,111 miles on the odometer to boot.

     So, what else? Well, the bodywork, exhaust, air intake and interior decals are all new. And an ECU tune is good for a purported, though still unconfirmed, 430 hp. Jet stream blue paint. There's also Jet Stream Blue Paint, LED headlights (which surely can't be road legal) and "adjustable ride control" with "electric tilt front end". Is this a car or a sex toy?

 

Fisker Karma

     Fisker claims the car "is the first and only true electric vehicle with extended range". The Karma is powered by two 200bhp electric motors which feed on lithium-ion batteries. These are recharged by a 2.0-litre petrol engine mated to a 175kw generator.

     The company claims their solution eliminates range anxiety by offering a 300-mile range. The Karma is also capable of 0-60mph in under six seconds while emitting just 83g/km CO2.

     Even cool cars like the Fisker Karma uses sex sells when advertising. No ideal what this girl has lost in the back of this car and we really don't care! There's no doubting that the Karma has cool looks and has succeeded  in transferring all the promise of the concept car into a production  version, but now Fisker will have to begin trying to sell the $88,000  sports sedan.

      Hence the new marketing push and the car's appearance at the LA show. If the niche manufacturer can drum up business anywhere it will be in the eco-sensitive City of Angels.
